Autrans ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using Autrans, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile picture (if signing in with Google). If using email registration, we store a hashed version of your password.
When you upload audio for transcription, the file is stored in encrypted cloud storage (Cloudflare R2). Audio is processed by our transcription engine and the resulting transcript is stored in our database (MongoDB). You can delete your audio files and transcripts at any time.
We collect basic analytics via Vercel Analytics: page views, device type, browser, country. This data is anonymized and does not identify you personally.
If you accept the cookie banner we also use Google Analytics, which is different in kind: it sets cookies and can recognise the same browser across separate visits. It receives which pages you viewed and rough location, never your recordings, your transcripts, or anything in them. If you decline, it is not loaded. See section 10.
When you use our free browser-based tools (audio converter, video to audio, subtitle converter, etc.), no data is sent to our servers. All processing happens locally on your device using WebAssembly. We do not have access to files you process with free tools.
Audio files are stored in Cloudflare R2 with encryption at rest and in transit. Account data and transcripts are stored in MongoDB with encrypted connections. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Sessions use JWT tokens with secure, httpOnly cookies.
We use the following third-party services:
Your audio files and transcripts are retained until you delete them or delete your account. Upon account deletion, all associated data (audio files, transcripts, account information) is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymized analytics data may be retained indefinitely.
Nigerian languages — Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and Nigerian English — are under-served by mainstream speech AI. To improve accuracy for everyone, we can learn from the text corrections people make to their own transcripts. This is strictly optional and off by default.
This is separate from, and additional to, your normal use of Autrans. You do not need to opt in to use any feature.
You have the right to:
Always set: a session cookie when you are signed in, your theme preference, and a first-touch cookie recording how you arrived (for example which link or campaign brought you). That last one carries no name or email and exists so we can tell which channels work.
Only if you accept the cookie banner: Google Analytics 4, which sets its own cookies (_ga and _ga_*) to recognise a returning browser across sessions, plus a first-party analytics id (autrans_aid) that links your visits before and after you sign up. Decline, and neither is set, GA4 is not loaded at all rather than loaded and told not to count.
Vercel Analytics, which we also use for page-level metrics, is cookieless. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site’s cookies, which brings the banner back.
Autrans is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will delete that data promptly.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
