Frequently asked

Questions, answered

What's the difference between lossy and lossless audio formats?
Lossy formats (MP3, AAC, OGG, Opus) compress audio by discarding inaudible detail, smaller files, slight quality drop on re-encodes. Lossless formats (WAV, FLAC) preserve every sample at the cost of larger files. Convert to WAV or FLAC for editing and archive; convert to MP3 or AAC for sharing.
Will converting affect audio quality?
Lossless → lossless or lossless → lossy preserves perceptual quality at AuTrans's default VBR. Lossy → lossy re-encodes through a high-quality codec but slight degradation is unavoidable on repeated re-encodes, convert from your original source when possible.
What's the maximum file size?
Free conversions handle files up to 100 MB. Pro covers files up to 500 MB and batch jobs of up to 50 files per session.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Batch conversion is a Pro feature. Free users can convert files individually as often as they want.
Does AuTrans preserve metadata (artist, album, etc.)?
Yes. ID3 and Vorbis comments are carried across whenever the target format supports them. Convert WAV → MP3 and your title and artist tags survive.
What sample rate does the converter use?
Default is to preserve the source sample rate. AuTrans handles 8 kHz (phone) through 48 kHz (studio) without resampling unless the target format requires it.
