What is a WAV file?

WAV (Waveform Audio File Format) stores raw, uncompressed PCM audio, every sample, exactly as captured. A 44.1 kHz stereo WAV runs to roughly 10 MB per minute, which is the price of keeping everything.

Why OGG?

OGG is an open, royalty-free container, most commonly carrying Vorbis-encoded audio. It was built as the free-software answer to MP3 and delivers comparable or better quality at the same bitrate.
